Why it pays to splurge - foundation.

Now I know what your thinking; "have you even tried a drug store brand?" Well...the answer is yes! Over the years I have amassed quite a collection of foundations, both drug store and luxury brands. But, there really is no substitute for a luxury foundation and here are a few reasons why.

Luxury brands are formulated with more finely milled ingredients resulting in a smoother and more even application and as a result you will use less product.

The colour range is MUCH wider too, so finding your perfect shade is a lot easier. Drugstore foundations are typically only available in 4-6 shades which you'll probably agree is quite a small box for everyone to fit in to.

Try before you buy? Luxury brands tend to occupy the infamous 'makeup counter' along with several people happy to help match your shade and apply it for you. You're still under no obligation to purchase the product and you avoid the dreaded scenario of your foundation being a completely different colour in natural light.

Really, think about it, we've all done it. Bought a drugstore foundation, the natural light changes the colour: it's too matte, too dewy, it irritates your skin and it doesn't have the staying power. You've then spent on average £9 per bottle (which seems cheap at the time right?) but that's £9 x 4 products that you hate. So that's £36.00 wasted already which, ironically, is the same price as one of my
favourite luxury products - Chanel Perfection lumiere which is available in 14 shades.

If luxury brands are out of your budget there are still plenty of other things you can save on and so many dupes out there...just look around.

What do you think? what is your favourite luxury brand?

  1. I'm not sure about the UK, but where I live we have proper testers at the drug store so you can definitely test out which shade works best and get a proper feel of the foundation. (Don't get me wrong, I do like high end foundations... but I usually end up repurchasing drugstore ones more often).
